You're right. But we're committed to changing the record in the same fashion as we changed history by getting our movement to champion bills in Congress aimed at protecting human rights, addressing the HIV/AIDS epidemic, eliminating trafficking in human slavery, prison rape, genocide in Sudan, and persecution in North Korea. All of these global challenges remain, but there's been at least a start and we've played our part.
We want to challenge tradition, as you say, about the environment. It's not as easy, but it can be done. To those who are skeptical, I say two words: shock and awe.
Those intent on protecting the status quo -- doing nothing -- on climate change, mercury poisoning of those yet within the womb, for example, will soon face the examination of our movement's leaders.
In this regard, we want to construct a dialogue that will result in many new players at the table. Is a "pro-business" and "pro-environment" result impossible? I don't believe so. Let's all work together for the benefit of America and the world, knowing that we can't just punt, neglect our leadership role. Let's do it!
